Maintaining teeth and gum health is important for keeping your oral health secure. Most people think regular care and dental checks will save them from dental issues. However, there is still a chance of degrading oral health. The truth is that if you have health problems, it puts your teeth and gum at risk.

Some common health conditions that deteriorate your oral health

A few health disorders can lead to dental problems:

    High blood pressure

Patients with higher blood pressure have a higher risk of suffering from gum disorder. They may experience bleeding and red gums. Sometimes, medications for blood pressure control affect your gums. They cause side effects like dry mouth that result in tooth decay. ACE inhibitor is a blood pressure management medication that does not affect your oral health.

    Cardiac problems

There is a close connection between your heart and oral health. If you have periodontitis or other gum diseases, it could be a sign of heart disorder. Bacteria from inflamed gums pass through your body to affect your heart. Healthier gums and teeth reduce the risk of cardiac diseases related to oral health.

    Kidney disorders

Some gum problems result from kidney diseases. Chronic kidney disorders degrade your bone and heart health. They can also increase your blood pressure level. So, these issues are related to your gum health. Moreover, chronic gum infection often causes inflammation in your body. It will also adversely affect your kidneys.

    Diabetes

Many diabetic patients suffer from periodontitis. Their gums pull away from their teeth. As a result, they lose their teeth at any time. So, you have to control your blood sugar level to avoid these issues. If you have diabetes and gum disorders, contact a periodontist. In some cases, you need gum surgery to solve the problem.

    Lung problems

COPD and bronchitis are common lung complications associated with gum problems. It can lead to harmful bacterial accumulation in your mouth. If bacteria reach your lungs, there is a risk of lung disorders. You may experience breathing difficulty, coughs, and several other issues. Regular smokers face more complicated symptoms.

    Obesity

Overweight persons have a higher risk of experiencing periodontitis. Inflammation is a common sign of periodontitis. Fat cells generate a protein that causes gum disorder and inflammation. So, consult a specialist to maintain your oral health and reduce obesity.

    Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis risk is increased in the elderly. Their jawbones grow less thick because of their weak bones. You could be asked to have a dental X-ray by your dentist. Osteoporosis may be treated with appropriate medicine and a little dietary adjustment.

    Anaemia

Your gums will look pale and cause soreness if you have anaemia. You must take vitamins and iron supplements to manage anaemia symptoms. The dentist will treat internal gum bleeding and other similar problems.

If you have currently any oral health issues, you can consider Sydney Road Dental Care. The best dentists will identify the cause of the problem and provide the best treatment.
