The spring/summer 2024 collection takes a lot from the unpresent elements. Phoebe Philo, who had yet to show the fruits of her self-named fashion line, had planned to debut online in September after departing Celine. Many waited nervously if Phoebe Philo would eclipse their drops—especially because Philo had been deemed the messiah of fashion.
The 2024 spring-summer show was supposed to be Sarah Burton’s last collection for Alexander McQueen, and Gabriela Hearst would also be leaving Chloe.
The designers played it safe this year. They worked with muted palettes against the demoralising disparity and an equally sobering economic and political backdrop. It’s safe to assume that the post-pandemic era of body positivity—and the nude looks that came with it—has faded.
But with the spring shows on, here is what we see dominating the runways:
Short Shorts
It’s been said a lot that Jili games are fun. However, fashion can also be fun if you have patience and an eye for it. If you observe the trend, short shorts will dominate. We hope your brain doesn’t play the ‘1957’ song by the Royal Teens (or the Homer Simpson homage)—especially if you think yourself more culturally robust than us. Microshorts have dominated Milan catwalks and have now spread to Chanel, Isabel Marant, and Alexander McQueen.
Fringe
Some might say, hey, it isn’t fringe, so 2005. Unfortunately, some styles are too fun to kill. The fringe is officially back into the zeitgeist. Although the word boho can send you back-to-war flashbacks way back to 2013, there is no need to be afraid of the fringe. This 2024 fringe is back and enjoying a high-fashion renaissance. Prada catwalks act as a model, and the material acts as a sheer layer on top of micro shorts.
Meanwhile, Jil Sander has given it the appearance of feathers. At Gucci, the fringe supports the beauty of a burgundy skirt. Pull that fringed jacket from the outskirts of 2013, your deep storage, or maybe your new collection.
Rich Burgundy
Last fall and winter, red had its big moment. However, in 2024, our favourite spring collections have gone darker. There are many names for it—maroon, burgundy, oxblood—but whatever it is—the moodier sister of red—it has popped onto too many runways to count.
The moody dark red is a colour that represents power and ambition. As a result, you must add it to your wardrobe. Gucci, Valentino, and Sergio Hudson prove that dark red can spice up a tonal outfit. You can begin with a maroon cardigan, a designer bag, or the loafers.
Ice Blue
White is quite the ethereal colour. Soft blue graces everything. Ice blue is another colour for the season, from tender, gossamer blouses to full suits. Many styles from Banana Republic, Tove, and Róhe can grace you with ice-blue pieces and accessories, including leather coats, suits, blouses, and dresses. Against the heat of the sun, ice blue is a refreshing colour to see and watch.
Wrapping Up
Spring is bound to be an exciting season this year. Many things will trend. However, we recommend these items the most.
